Geita Gold Mining Ltd (GGML) is Tanzania's leading gold producer with a single operation in the Geita region. The company is a subsidiary of AngloGold Ashanti, an international gold producer based in South Africa, with operations in more than ten countries, on four continents. The mine is situated in the Lake Victoria goldfields in northwestern Tanzania, only about 85 km from the town of Mwanza and 20 km southeast of the closest point of Lake Victoria. The company has its head office in Geita, just 5 km west of the rapidly growing city of Geita, and also has a support office in Dar es Salaam. PURPOSE OF PAPER
The purpose of the role is to perform and complete all task assignments so that all HMEs/LMEs on site are maintained to original equipment manufacturer (OEM) standards and provide "fit for purpose" to the mining operations team. for safe and efficient use in achieving the business plan. Using the correct work methods and safety precautions, with the required quality standard, completing tasks on time, and effectively using the resources allocated for each task. Duties include all shop duties including cleaning, inspections, electrical work, and another auto electrical shop-related duties. The ultimate goal of this feature is to help the senior supervisor reduce redo work for all work executed within the auto electrical work feature, and thus reduce MTBF (Mean Time Before Failure). As a Radio Technician, you are expected to provide guidance and support to the team when needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum: VETA Grade One / Level Three Commercial Test Certificate in Electronics and Telecommunications and VHF/UHF Radiocommunication or its equivalent.
Added advantage: Higher Degree/Diploma in Electronics and Telecommunications and VHF/UHF Radiocommunication or its equivalent.
Added advantage: Complete Technical Certificate (FTC) / Diploma in Electronics and Telecommunications and VHF/UHF Radiocommunication or its equivalent.
You must possess a valid Tanzanian driver's license.
EXPERIENCE:
5 – 10 years of experience in the maintenance of VHF/UHF, Digital/Analogue Radio Communication System, GSM, Solar System and installation.
Ability to troubleshoot and repair VHF repeaters/combiners and duplex tuning and configuration
Knowledge of procedures for the repair and maintenance of Telecommunications Towers
Knowledge of Radwin and Cambium radio link configuration
Data and voice link establishment
Fiber optic conditioning and configuration
Knowledge in repairs of TrBonet Watch & TrBonet Enterprise, CCTV, Networking and Backup System.
Knowledge in installation of Solar Energy and Backup System
Knowledge of leaky feeder tunnel radio communication and head unit system switching and configuration
2-Way Radio Installation on Heavy Mining Equipment. e.g. Caterpillar Machines, RH340, RH170 Excavators and Terex MT4400 and Komatsu Machines
Proven experience troubleshooting and maintaining 2-way radio communication systems
Knowledge about auto electrical and air conditioning system and repairs will be an added bonus.
MAIN OR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ensure that the work is carried out with safe work practices and procedures in the Workshop and GGM in general.
Repair and maintain a wide range of 2-way radio communication systems and stand-alone towers.
Installation of repeaters, Radwins and configuration of VHF/UHF frequency selections and code plug configuration
Install solar system and backup battery system
Operate required tools and equipment in a safe and responsible manner.
Use approved work methods to solve problems and decide what to wear or not to wear.
Engage with work execution teams to contribute to the planning details of those expected to do the work.
Incorporate the work execution team in the planning packages.
Plan the work to minimize the impact on operational performance without exceeding the required deadline for completion of the work.
Demonstrate work behaviors consistent with company values and work within prescribed limits, including required behaviors, company policies, standards, procedures, and legal requirements.
Observe all safety requirements relevant to the job in question.
Report any unsafe equipment to the supervisor immediately
Ensure the work is performed in accordance with OEM requirements and that best fitting and installation practices are adhered to and impact the workforce.
Inspect equipment for damage or defects and record findings.
Do all repair work accordingly.
Meet job deadlines to minimize resource demand without exceeding the Required Job Completion Date.
Always maintain cleanliness standards.
Repair equipment and report task completion to supervisor
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Solid knowledge of health, safety and environmental issues and procedures.
He/she must be physically and mentally fit and work hard.
Must be able to work with minimal supervision
Good communication skills.
Demonstrate a good commitment to comply
Capacity to work under pressure
Good at Microsoft skills
Driving competence (must have a valid Tanzanian license) and be able to drive in the mining environment.
Be able to read and understand the maintenance manual book and keep logs/daily logs.
Fluency in the English language.
Time management skills.
