Mwalimu Julius K. Nyerere University of Agriculture and Technology (MJNUAT), with its headquarters in Butiama District and satellite centres elsewhere in the Mara region. The Government of the United Republic of Tanzania (URT), decided to establish this public university in honour of the Father of the Nation, the late Mwalimu Julius K. Nyerere, First President of the United Republic of Tanzania who believed that agriculture in its broad sense remains a reliable means of livelihood to many Tanzanians in the rural settings.
The university strives at being at the centre stage of agricultural transformation in Tanzania, and a regional and global player in innovative and societal responsive Agricultural Education and Training (AET). The University aims at achieving this through the embracement of the concepts of the Third or Fourth Generation University. MJNUAT has positioned itself as the “Entrepreneurial University” where the focus in the latter is not only in education, research, outreach and technology transfer through linkage with industry and know-how exploitation, but the university itself will be involved pro-actively in inculcating passion in agriculture, entrepreneurial mindset, behaviour and practices not only to its students and staff but also in its institutional as well as its structural and organizational setup.
